Long review but we've been with Interaction for a long time and it's genuine.
Disability care is a very difficult field to work in and it is even more difficult to find high quality carers.
We have been with Interaction's supported accommodation service for over a decade. I have never had cause to consider moving my family member to a different organisation. We have had some issues along the way. One of those is lack of communication - I am never told when there is a new coordinator or staff member working with my family member. I can also be suddenly told I have to deal with something for the NDIS which they should have picked up and dealt with. We are in a worse situation than we should have been because some things weren't done that they were responsible for (that was a coordinator who was lazy and now long-gone). More on poor quality staff: we had one support worker who was exceptionally negligent in handling my family member's finances.
However the worker we currently have is amazing - very caring, supportive, communicates appropriately and holds my family member to account where it is needed for their wellbeing. We have had more good carers than bad ones. With the current carer there is the right balance of assistance with independence and respect.
We recently worked out that what I thought Interaction were doing and what they were actually doing is very different. But I understand why that happened - over time companies change staff and change processes etc and the NDIS is a constantly changing monster. Each change to them seems small so I wasn't told; however over many years the net impact on a client is enormous. In our instance the result of that was a medical emergency. The reaction of Interaction staff to the incident was genuine care, not a focus on covering their arses or blaming the family. Together we worked out how it happened. As the current staff seem to be very good I have no doubt they have looked at that incident and worked out how to mitigate it happening for long term residents moving foward.
Aside from the medical incident, my faily member has an optimal quality of life.
Never will you find any disablity organisation or any person who is perfect. I rate Interaction among the higher level of organisations - they were around long before the NDIS; they are in the field for the right reasons. They maintain a high-quality board that includes the voices of family and consumers. Personally, I draw the line where I would not use a company for supported accommodation that has started since the NDIS was rolled out - that's where the trouble really is.Christine Noney -
Interaction looks after clients, caring support workers who looks after clients.
